An exercise physiologist can aid in reduction and management of weight, to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.
HOW?
Exercise along with diet are the two most important factors to maintaining a healthy weight. Exercise is used to expend the energy from the food we eat and to regulate our metabolism.
WHAT TYPE OF EXERCISE IS BEST?
Our exercise physiologist will assess your physical capacity to design an individualized program. This can consist of aerobic/cardiovascular exercise, strength training and/or high-intensity exercise to work towards your goals.
Aerobic exercise has been shown to be the most effective at weight management. Aerobic exercises such as walking, riding, swimming, kayaking, rowing and boxing are great for weight loss. With weight loss the crucial factor is the volume of exercise, more is better -as this burns more energy. High intensity exercise burns energy faster but as low-moderate intensity exercise is often done at greater volumes, then low-moderate exercise will often burn more energy in total and therefore be more effective at weight management. An exercise physiologist will work with you to set your goals, plan your exercise routine and progress your exercise routine appropriately.
WHY IS WEIGHT MANAGEMENT IMPORTANT?
Weight management is important to decrease your risk of metabolic and musculoskeletal conditions. Including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, osteoarthritis, sleep apnoea and some cancers.
